2 PDHPE encourages understanding and valuing of the self and others Students who understand and value themselves are more likely to: Take control of their lives. Make positive lifestyle choices. Work cooperatively with others. Seek help when needed.

3 PDHPE promotes physical activity PE lessons contribute to daily exercise recommendations. PE can improve self esteem. PE can encourage children to be more active.

4 PDHPE emphasises informed decision making leading to effective and responsible action PDHPE builds students’ decision making skills. Students learn about developmental and environmental issues that are relevant to them. Students have the opportunity to confront difficult issues and are able to learn and practise strategies which can be used in real life situations.

5 PDHPE focuses on holistic development PDHPE curriculum covers a wide range of topics, e.g. maintaining relationships, making healthy choices and developing an active lifestyle.
