Bullying is defined as a form of aggressive behavior in which someone intentionally and repeatedly causes someone harm or discomfort. This includes: Name calling Physical harm Spreading rumors

The Bully Blames others for problems Unexplained extra money or new belongings Don’t accept responsibility for actions Child Being Bullied Unexplainable injuries Sudden lose of friends or avoidance of social situations Decreased self esteem and feeling of hopelessness

Verbal Using words, statements and name calling to gain control over the target. Physical Most common, use physical harm to gain control over target Sexual Repeated, harmful, and humiliating actions to target a person sexually

Relational Aggression Manipulation that often goes unseen, to try to ruin social standing, otherwise known as emotional bullying. Cyberbullying Bullying done through forms of technology Prejudicial Targets kids who are of different race/sexual orientation and singles out, often leads to hate crimes

Child Being Bullied Depression and anxiety, sadness and loneliness Health problems Decrease in academic performance The Bully Engage in early sexual activity Abuse alcohol and other drugs Drop Out

Talk to your parents or someone you trust. Do not blame yourself, it is not your fault. Be confident and stand up to the bully. Make friends who will have your back. Avoid situation where bullying can happen.

This person is not the main bully, but doesn’t help the situation: Can be good or bad May help the bully, enjoys the situation. Avoids the situation and doesn’t try to help. Has mixed feelings, but doesn’t feel the need to intervene.

Learn what bullying is and what it is not. Establish a safe environment for your students. Respond when you see bullying happening. Utilize resources on bullying.

Learn the warning signs and recognize if your child is being bullied. Work with your child to prevent cyberbullying. Find resources to help with the situation. Work with community and school officials if you suspect bullying.
