5. The goal of phonics is to enable readers to decode new written words by sounding them out, or in phonics terms, blending the sound-spelling patterns. Children are taught to read by breaking down words into separate sounds called ‘phonemes’. They decode the sounds then blend them back together to form the word. Th i s i s m y h ou s e.

6. We encourage the children to use actions when segmenting and blending new words together. This helps them to identify the sounds within the words more easily.
