2 Format Your Paper First, divide your paper by drawing a series of stairs from the upper right corner to the lower left corner The left-hand side of the paper is the upstairs, representing a character’s strengths The right-hand side of the paper is the downstairs, representing a character’s weaknesses or challenges

3 Creating the Upstairs Side Upstairs side contains criteria representing a character’s strengths, dreams, and goals  Two Citations Representing a character’s strengths, dreams, and goals Must be at least two sentences long  Two Images Representing a character’s strengths, dreams, and goals Must relate to citations  Two Brainstorms Representing a character’s strengths, dreams, and goals Four (3 words or less) around each image. Must relate to image

4 Downstairs Side Downstairs side contains criteria representing a character’s weaknesses, nightmares, and obstacles  Two Citations Representing a character’s weaknesses, nightmares, and obstacles Must be at least two sentences long  Two Images Representing a character’s weaknesses, nightmares, and obstacles Must relate to citations  Two Brainstorms Representing a character’s weaknesses, nightmares, and obstacles Four (3 words or less) around each image. 5 Guidelines Citations, images, and brainstorms must tie-in Must be multicolored No lined paper Use parenthetical citation Each side must be a different color Be creative, unique, even unusual

6 How to Grade Upstairs/Downstairs Upstairs: 2-Images 8-Brainstorms 2-Citations Downstairs 2-Images 8-Brainstorms 2-Citations Stairs: 1 - Stairs Direction Right to Left Write a two sentence evaluation, stating what you did well according to the standards of comprehension, analysis, and evaluation for what you read Each Criteria Is Worth Four Points (Based on a score of 100 points)

7 Printing Directions 1.On the tool bar, click on “File,” click on “Print.” 2.In the “Print” dialogue box, in the lower left corner under “Print What,” click on the drop down arrow and select “Handouts.” 3.Then, under “Color/Grayscale,” select the best on for your printer. 4.Next, under “Handouts,” click on “Slides per Page,” and choose “9.” 5.Lastly, click on “OK,” and the file will print.
