4 Definition of Grit? Angela Duckworth, the speaker in the TED Talk defines grit in the following way: “Grit is having passion and perseverance for long-term goals... Grit is having stamina… Grit is sticking with your future. Not just for the week, not just for the month, but for years. And working very hard to make that future a reality…Grit is living life like it’s a marathon, not a sprint.”

5 Ethos, Pathos, and logos Ethos-A speaker’s ability to build credibility and or establish him/herself as an expert. What kind of things establish ethos? Pathos- an appeal to emotions in order to sway an audience Logos-Use of data/evidence to prove one’s case

7 Reflection Questions: Having Grit!
Respond to the following questions on a blank sheet of paper. You will have minutes to complete your responses. Once you have completed your responses, we will be sharing out as an entire class group! How did the speaker in yesterday’s TED Talk define grit? How is having grit different from learning “quickly and easily?” What specific subject(s) do you feel require you to have more grit? Why? What are some ways we can increase and/or maintain the amount of grit we have? How can having grit help you to be academically successful?
