Jesus in the Festival of Hanukkah

From an Ancient Jewish Tradition “The Holy One, blessed be He, commanded Moshe [and company] to construct the tabernacle. It took Moshe [and company] three months to complete this process, and the work was completed on the 25th day of the month of Kislev [what millennia later became the 1 st day of Hanukkah]. The tabernacle was completed, however it was then disassembled, folded up and put in storage [until Nisan 1]” (Yalkut Shimoni Exodus 39).

SHAMMASH “servant” 12345678 Eight Days of Hanukkah

Hanukkah Is a Hebrew word meaning “Dedication.” –Commemorates the re-dedication of the Jerusalem Temple, during the Winter of 164 B.C., after: It had been occupied by Greek persecutors. It had been defiled by Greek persecutors. –They erected a statue of the Greek king, that looked like Zeus, on the large Temple altar. –They sacrificed pigs on the Temple altar.

Antiochus “Epiphanes” “Epiphanes” means “God manifest” [in the flesh]

Hanukkah Is a Hebrew word meaning “Dedication.” –Commemorates a miracle from God. The outnumbered Jews retook the Temple. According to the Law of Moses, it was to take 8 days to dedicate the Tabernacle/Temple. The Jews only had one day’s worth of oil. The oil for the Temple Lampstand (“menorah”) burned for 8 days.

Hanukkah Holds a key to understanding Daniel’s reference to: “The Abomination of Desolation” (Dan 9:27; 11:31; 12:11). Holds a key to understanding Jesus’ reference to: “The Abomination of Desolation” (Mat 24:15; Mar 13:14).

But in the middle of the week he shall bring an end to sacrifice and offering. And on the wing of abominations shall be one who makes desolate… (Dan 9:27).

But in the middle of the week he shall bring an end to sacrifice and offering. And on the wing of abominations shall be one who makes desolate… (Dan 9:27).

And forces shall be mustered by him, and they shall defile the sanctuary fortress; then they shall take away the daily sacrifices, and place there the abomination of desolation (Dan 11:31).

And from the time that the daily sacrifice is taken away, and the abomination of desolation is set up, there shall be one thousand two hundred and ninety days. (Dan 12:11).

From the historical Intertestamental book 1 Maccabees we see a 164 B.C. fulfillment of Daniel’s prophecy: On the fifteenth day of the month Chislev (Nov-Dec)…the king [Antiochus “Epiphanes”] erected the abomination of desolation upon the altar for burnt offerings… (1Mac 1:58).

[Jesus said,] “Therefore when you see the 'abomination of desolation,' spoken of by Daniel the prophet, standing in the holy place” (whoever reads, let him understand), “then let those who are in Judea flee to the mountains” (Mat 24:15,16).

SEE ALSO: Let no one deceive you by any means; for that Day will not come unless…the man of sin is revealed, the son of perdition, who opposes and exalts himself above all that is called God or that is worshiped, so that he sits as God in the temple of God, thus declaring himself to be God. (2The 2:3,4).

A Prophetic Principle: The Prophetic Future is Patterned after the Prophetic Past.

A Prophetic Principle: The Future Events surrounding the prophesied “man of sin” will be patterned after the Past Events of Hanukkah.
