2  Read the profile of Mark Holland on page 35.  After you have read the profile, the class will be divided into 2 teams. One team will be on the “Affirmative” side, leaving the remaining team as the “Opposition.”

3  You have one half hour to brainstorm your arguments in a manner that best supports your position on the matter.

4  While this will be an informal debate, decorum and some semblance of procedure is expected.

5 1. One person presents their argument at a given time. 2. Should opposition to the initial viewpoint arise, the opposing team will respectfully disagree and state their reasons for doing so. 3. The moderator will open/close the debate and monitor its proceedings.

6  Student #1: I think the voting age should (not) be lowered to 16 years of age because (Affirmative Reason #1)  Student #2: I disagree. I think the voting age in Canada should not (should) be lowered to 16 years of age because (Opposition Reason # 1)

7  #1: I understand what you are saying, but I think that...  #2: I understand your idea; however, I believe that.
