3 Reading strategies for babies include… Making sounds Exaggerated facial expressions Pauses and voice expression

4 Asking familiar questions… Where is the boy? Where is the ball? Making your own story about a picture

5 Simple labeling What is…… that?! "dog!" "googie!" What is…… That?! "ba" "ball“ Extended labeling Where is the RED ball? Where is the BIG boy? Find the bird flying back to his nest…

6 Evaluating Books for Babies Books for babies should have: –Colorful pictures –Familiar pictures –Simple pictures

7 Evaluating Books for Babies Baby books should also have: –Hard/stiff pages – can’t tear or rip easily –Rhyme and/or silliness to the words –Predictable or repetitive language –Interesting features – like flaps to open/close, textures etc…. 9 Volume – tell the story loud enough – soften or deepen your voice at different times in the story Pace – don’t rush through the story – tell it as a nice pace Expression – use different voices and sound effects SMILE and Make EYE CONTACT To be a great “READER” remember and practice these things….
