1 Needs Assessment Results For Bartow County Coalition to Prevent the Misuse of Alcohol Scott Sherwin Christa Layton GOALS: 1)reduce the early onset of alcohol use among ages 9 to 20 year olds; 2)reduce youth 9 to 20 year olds access to alcohol and binge drinking; & 3)reduce binge drinking and related consequences among ages 9 to 25.

2 Bartow County Statistics 2010 460 Square Miles 217 Individuals Per Square Mile 100,157 Individuals Residing in County 80% White, 9% Black, 8% Hispanic, 3% Other Median Income $49,060 15% of Population is Below Poverty Line High School Graduates is 80% Bachelor’s Degree or Higher is 17%

6 During the last 30 days, how many days did you have at least one drink of alcohol?

7 How easy would it be for you to get beer, wine, or hard liquor? The following said “sort of easy or very easy.”

8 What ages of youth think that few, most or all students in their grade drink alcoholic beverages?

9 What ages of youth believe that a few, most, or all parents allow alcohol at parties hosted by their children?

10 If someone under 21 were caught with alcohol, what ages of youth agree they would get in trouble with their parents?

11 During the past 30 days, how did you usually get the alcohol that you drank? Someone other than a family member gave it to me. A family member gave it to me. I gave someone else money to buy it for me. I gave money to an adult going into a store (shoulder tap). I bought it in a store.

14 If someone under 21 were caught with alcohol, would the police give them a ticket? The following said yes.

15 During the past 30 days, what ages of youth gave money to an adult (shoulder tap) to get alcohol that they drank?

16 During the past 30 days, what ages of youth admitted to riding in a car driven by someone drinking alcohol, or driving a vehicle after drinking?

17 What ages of youth, if they had the chance and knew would not get caught, would get drunk?

18 During the last 30 days, how many days did you have 5 or more drinks on the same occasion (within a couple of hours)?

19 Do you think parents in your community allow alcohol at parties hosted by their children? The following said yes.

20 Do you think your closest friends have been drunk in the past 30 days? The following said yes.
