2 History: The ancient Olympic Games began in the year 776 BC, when Koroibos, a cook from the nearby city of Elis, won the stadium race, a foot race 600 feet long. According to some literary traditions, this was the only athletic event of the games for the first 13 Olympic festivals. Other evidence suggests that the games may have existed at Olympia much earlier than this date, perhaps as early as the 10th or 9th century BC.

3 Events There are many track and field events. They consist of the long jump, triple jump, javelin, pole vault, high jump, discus, shot put, hammer throw, pentathlon, decathlon, walking, relays, and many more.

4 Olympics and World Championships Some of the world championships that occurred in Olympic history are USA Half Marathon Championships (Jan. 17), the USA 25km Championships (May 8), USA Masters Half Marathon Championships (Feb. 7), and many more.

5 PSAL: Public School Athletic Leagues There are many PSAL events. They are PSAL Boys And Girls Lacrosse Championship Held Under The Stars At Aviator Sports And Recreation Complex; Semi Final Match Ups To Be Challenging, PSAL BOYS AND GIRLS INDIVIDUALS MAIN DRAW SINGLES AND DOUBLES TOURNAMENT, 2009-2010 WINTER PSAL WINGATE AWARD WINNERS, and others.

6 Famous people/role model: Some of the famous people in track and field are Michael Walton, Al Joyner, Florence "Flo Jo" Griffith Joyner, Jackie Joyner Kersee, Edwin Moses, and Bruce Jenner.

7 What do you like most about Track and Field? The thing that I like about track and field are seeing many people compete and the competition.
