1 PJMS Hallway Expectations 2013-2014

2 At Palmer Jr. Middle School:  No one has the right to interfere with the learning, safety, or well-being of others.  The expectation for all students is that you do what is expected, to the best of your ability.

3 At Palmer Jr. Middle School:  The halls at PJMS will be a safe environment where students travel efficiently to class, while demonstrating and being treated with respect and courtesy.

4 Conversation LEVEL 2 Students in the halls should be passing from class to class keeping prolonged conversation to a minimum Keep conversation with friends short Stand to the side when talking Use appropriate language

5 Help Find a Teacher or Administrator If you need help or need to report an incident, find an adult in the hall to explain the situation Please do not try to handle difficult situations involving others on your own

6 Activity Students will travel from class to class in the halls during passing period, keeping conversation to a minimum Students on a pass out of class will travel quickly between class and destination Teachers will provide all students who need to travel in the halls during class with a pass Pass activity should be limited to 3-5 minutes Failure to return to class within a reasonable amount of time may result in your hall pass privileges being revoked

7 Activity - Lockers Lockers are an important organizational part of being a student Lockers are to be treated with respect Please do not over-stuff your locker Please do not keep food in locker overnight Please do not kick or slam lockers Students who have to be addressed > 3 times will lose locker privileges

8 Activity - Vandalism Should any student engage in vandalism in the halls (or in a classroom) the preferred disciplinary action will be service to the school community, but may also involve loss of privileges up to suspension from school. Restitution for repairs will be required when applicable.

9 Movement Students will walk at an appropriate pace Students will be respectful of one another and travel on the right to avoid collision! Students will not block halls by standing in groups

10 Movement – Tardy Policy Enter the classroom quietly Fill out tardy slip Give the slip to the teacher Sit down quietly, join class After 3 unexcused tardies – parent contact After 4 unexcused tardies – 1 lunch detention After 5 unexcused tardies – 5 lunch detentions 6+ tardies – admin. referral

11 Participation Students demonstrating appropriate hallway behavior will keep their hallway privileges Students who choose to not demonstrate appropriate hallway behavior by Loitering Littering Accumulating tardies Or otherwise ignoring school rules may lose their hallway privileges

12 Success Our teachers and custodians make a great effort to keep our halls safe and clean – please do your part! Thank you!
