ENVIRONMENTAL MONITORING AT THE NATIONAL ARCHIVES Marta O’Neill, Preservation Officer National Archives

Current process  One to three data loggers in each stack of our 44 facilities, depending upon stack size and shelving configuration.  Several hundred data loggers in use across the National Archives.  A variety of different data loggers. Primarily PEMs.  On-site staff upload the data logger information into Climate Notebook. They email the zipped files to Preservation Programs and mail printed copies of a report to our office quarterly.

NARA eClimate Notebook  We have a contract with Image Permanence Institute to customize their eClimate Notebook website http://eclimatenotebook.com/ for our use. http://eclimatenotebook.com/  It is over the web and not part of our network.

Customized features  Each facility will have an account, where they can view their own data.  There will be an administrator account that can see the data for all facilities.  One account can have multiple logins/users.

Customized features  Shows NARA Standards and each data logger will be assigned a standard.  Shows time in standard for each data logger

Show National Archives hierarchy This is only test data, not our actual hierarchy.

Benefits of the website  Quicker for staff gathering data.  More efficient sharing of data between each facility and Preservation Programs and Facilities staff.  Secure and backed up electronic records for our environmental data.

Schedule  Website will be piloted at the beginning of September.  It will be rolled out to all our facilities between October 2012 and March 2013.  Training will be provided to our field sites over the web by Preservation Programs staff.
