NPSS MEMBERSHIP REPORT ADCOM NOV 2010 PART A e-Membership PART B Prelim 2010 Results VGPrice

PART A DEVELOPING NATIONS “E-Member option” What is it? Who is eligible? Why do it? What IEEE business rules? Expected consequences Info: complimentsElyn Perez

What is e-Membership? Everything IEEE membership offers But, no paper.. All electronic -electronics pack and Mem card -Electronic versions of journals -Electronic renewal invoices Reduced annual base dues - $50

WHO IS ELIGIBLE FOR e-MEM? Current/Prospective members who reside where GDP is <$15K Currently affects 153 countries Higher Grade only -Students not eligible -Special Circumstances can’t be applied to e-membership

Why is IEEE Offering it? Membership Affordability Supports IEEE Humanitarianism It is hoped that lower prices will: Maximize retention rates---- -Though risk in revenue, Hope to offset that with: Increased recruitment Increased purchase of IEEE products

E-Member Business Rules e-Mems have full voting rights e-Mems full consideration for grade elevation Years of service count for Life e-Mems able to join any society at whatever pricing Society has available. continued

E-Member Business Rules-2 MGM awards earned for referring an e-Member (at $5 each Regional Assessments: $50 Base dues $13 assessment in R8 $3 in R9 $5 in R10

Expected Consequences End-of-year IEEE population = 400K Fraction of Transnationals vs US = 50/50 Growth rate of transnational is higher than that of US members. Therefore, expect a larger fraction versus US. e-Member option will accelerate transnational growth. continued

E-Member Implications for NPSS IEEE expects to expand e-Members into R-1 to 7 after trial experience in the GDP <$15 K countries. When they do: Electronic only recruitment implies using laptops at NPSS conference booths Many e-Members may neglect to renew NPSS when they renew IEEE Continued

Further NPSS Implications Consideration is underway to improve the means of recruitment at conferences, replacing paper approach with electronics. Not all conferences have Web access. Sometimes flaky access to web in the NPSS Booth area. Could use auto-start flash drive with IEEE log- in data loaded. Save and print later.
