2 2 London - basic facts An economic, cultural and political centre of UK. Capital city of the United Kingdom. Capital city of England, the biggest city in England. The seat of the Queen and the Parliament. The biggest Britain's port.

3 3 London - basic facts Located on the river Thames. Area - 1,570 km 2 (607 sq mi) Population - eight million people. Visited every year by nearly 26 million people. Divided into the City of London and 32 districts.

4 4 London - the City of London The oldest part of London. The business centre, there are concentrated the financial services - banks, insurance companies (Lloyds) and also the stock exchange. St.Paul´s Cathedral The Tower of London Tower Bridge Bank of England Museum

5 5 London - St.Paul´s Cathedral The highest point in the City of London. Built by Sir Christopher Wren after the Great Fire (1666). The seat of the Bishop of London.

6 6 London – the Tower of London Situated by the river Thames. Consists of several parts. The oldest part is called the White Tower. Built in the 11 th century by William the Conqueror. Used to be a prison, fortress and palace. Today it's a museum of Crown Jewels.

10 10 London - Trafalgar Square The largest square in London. Known for its fountains with lions. Nelson's Column in the middle (56 m). The National Gallery – famous paintings.

11 11 London – Palace of Westminster Situated on the left bank of the river Thames. Meeting place of the House of Commons and the House of Lords. Two Houses of the Parliament of the United Kingdom. Clock tower called Big Ben - at the north end of the Palace.

14 14 London – London Eye The world´s tallest observation wheel (135 m). Made from 1,700 tons of steel. The wheel has a diameter of 120 metres. Visited by over 3.5 million people every year.
