2. 1- What did they prepare for the journey? They prepared guns tools and scientific instrument. 2- How did they travel to Copenhagen? They travel to Copenhagen by steamer.

3. 3- How was the Professor most of the voyage? He was seasick most of the voyage. 4- Who was Dr Fridrekson? He was an Icelandic scientist.

4. 5- How did Dr Fridrekson helpful? He arranged for a guide called Hans to take them to Sneffels. 6- What was Sneffels? It was an extinct volcano. It has not erupted since 1229.

5. 7- How did they descend? They used ropes 8- Who was Hans? He was a big man who moved slowly and didn't say very much.

6. 9- How was the countryside of Iceland? It was bleak. 10- Why was the countryside of Iceland bleak? There was no crops and hardly any animals. The grass was yellow and there were large rocks everywhere.

7. 11- Why were the Icelanders helpful? They gave them the best food and drink and refuse their offer of money. 12- What did the Icelanders give the characters? They gave them the best food and drink.

8. 13- What were Axel's fears? He was afraid that Sneffels might only sleep and wake up. 14- What was Axel's dream? He dreamed that he was inside a volcano. There was a great explosion and he was shot up out of the volcano like a rocket.

9. 17- Which chimney lead to the centre of the earth? The chimney which the shadow of Scartaris touched before the end of June.

10. 15- How many chimneys were at the bottom of the crater? There were three chimneys. 16- What did the professor see on the large rock? He saw some marks. The marks were letters that spelled the name of Arne Saknussem.
