2. Heating with Solar Energy Some people mount large, flat dark colored solar collectors on their house to collect the sun’s heat. After the air is heated by the sun, the air moves to the house where it can be used. The heated air moves by gravity or by fans to heat the house

3. Electricity from the Sun In the 1950s, scientists found a way to make electricity from the sun’s energy. Solar cells, which are made of a mineral called silicon, are placed into panels. The solar cells absorb the energy from sunlight and change it into electricity. Some things which use solar-powered cells today are calculators, watches, toys and outdoor lighting for signs.
