1. Dear Parents, Please read the important dates section. We have the opportunity to go to the Dallas Heritage Village on November 12 th. The cost is 4 dollars for students. Please send this in by Thursday, and please let me know if your child will need a sack lunch. This field trip fits in perfectly with our past, present, and future unit for social studies. On November 5 th we will go to Guyer High school to watch the students perform a play. This field trip is provided by the district’s art department. Please send a sack lunch to school. We are so excited about these opportunities. Today in your child's purple folder you will see a progress report. I sent these home for every student in our class. Respectfully, Fallon Jones This week we are learning about… MATH- We are working on composing and decomposing 10, and using multiple addends to make 10. Math Strategies Counting On: No matter how big the number, counting up is fast 5 + 3 = 8 Say 5 then 6, 7,8 Counting Back : Start with the larger number and count backwards 8 – 5 = 3 Say 8 then 7, 6, 5, 4, 3 Making 10: student will know their 10 facts 1+9, 2+8, 3+7, 4+6, 5+5, 6+4, 7+3, 8+2, 9+1 Doubles for subtraction : Any number minus itself equals 0 8-8=0 Language Arts- We are working on making personal connections to our reading. Our word family this week is –ip and the high frequency words we will practice are: this, open, yes, will. We are continuing our learning with verbs, nouns and CVCe words (bossy E). Science- We are learning about magnets and if they push or pull. Social Studies- The students will learn about the president and his responsibilities, so that they are able to identify our national authority figure. Important Dates: Oct. 26 th - Oct. 30 th : Red Ribbon Week November 5 th - Field trip to see the play Mary Poppins at GHS. There is no cost to attend this field trip.
