LBT – LBC Introduction ● The Large Binocular Telescope (LBT) is a binocular telescope consisting of two 8.4-meter telescope on a common mount located near Safford, Arizona. ● The first-light LBT instrument will be the Large Binocular Camera (LBC, Pedichini 2000), a prime focus imager of 24x24 arcmin2 field of view. – The instrument consists of two channels, one optimized for near UV and optical (U,B,V) and the other for optical and NIR imaging (V,R,I, Gunn Z) Home Page http://lbc.mporzio.astro.it

● There are several important reason to create an Image Simulator for LBC: – To test the effective performances of the instrument expecially at the deepest levels. – To compare LBC with other existing or future instrumentations and telescopes. – To provide simulated imaging to train data reduction procedure/pipeline before instrument first-light. – To test the observational strategy of planned surveys. The base Simulator Software is a command-line linux-C application (C.DeSantis, A.Fontana), directly downloadable at http://lbc.mporzio.astro.it LBC Simulator Introduction

Simulator Operations ● Generate an artificial image in a selected sky region without sky background and flux calibrated objects ● Simulate the same field as seen by a given telescope, introducing a read out noise, flat field inaccuracies, rescaling the flux according to the effective aperture of the telescope, the gain and the pixel size of the detector and the total efficiency of the system. ● The simulation is possible for the artificial image both for a true one. ● It' s also possible rebinning and convolution with a Moffat or a gaussian kernel. ● The program is also able to simulate the effect of the LBC camera on the sky image, splitting the single image in a 4 MultiExtensionFits files (MEF) reproducing the 4 CCDs of the LBC and adding the optical distorsion and deformations. ● Alternatively, it' s possible to simulate the effect of a ditering pattern for wide field of view.

Web Image Simulator With the Help and supervision of faraday s.r.l (F.DiPangrazio, http://www.faraday.it) we create the Web interface for the LBC Simulator.http://www.faraday.it It' s a WebObject server-side application framework (Java Technology) wich is able to manage: Filters SQL database Processes (started, run, aborted, ended) Workstations (involved in calculation) Users (permissions, autentications and sessions) It's also available a back-office utility for generic configuration of the entire application.

Applications for WebIS The architecture of the WIS mainframe is generic and can manage a lot of workstations-running scripts, routines and procedures.

Applications for WebIS At this moment the available application for WIS mainframe are: ● LBC Simulator ● MakeFilter ● Filter Database The nature of the applications (workstation-side) is not really important (linux, windows, macOS... ), the aim of the WIS is to manage the requests incoming from different users at different times, redirect them to the appropriate script to the available workstation and to record the history of all processes run.

Conclusions Web IS is a powerful mainframe (server-side) with a global architecture that is able to manage many applications and versatile in all its aspects. The LBC Simulator is the main application involved in the mainframe and simulates the performances of the LBC cameras. LBC-Home Page: http://lbc.mporzio.astro.it
