Executive, legislative, judicial 4.Name one check the Legislative branch has on the Executive branch Veto override, approval of treaties or appointments, impeachment 5. 4 Round 3: Legislature 1.What must occur for a bill to become a law? majority of house and majority of senate must vote yes 2. What is the role of the Vice President in the legislature? Pro-Tempore – president of the senate 3. Why are committees important? Investigate and refine bills before going to a house or senate vote – conference committee fixes disagreements between the two houses 4.Name 2 special powers of the Senate Veto override, approve appointments of justices or cabinet members, approve treaties 5.Explain how the House of Representatives is involved in the impeachment process. The house investigates if an impeachment trial is needed and then calls for it to occur

5 Round 4: Executive Branch 1.Name 2 roles of the President Commander in Chief, chief of party, chief diplomat, chief of state, chief executive, chief guardian of the economy 2.If the President travels to a foreign nation to discuss affairs what role is he taking on? Chief diplomat 3.How many terms is the President limited to? Why? 2 terms because of a constitutional amendment 4.What does the pardoning power allow? The president can forgive any person of a crime – both guilt and punishment 1.True or false: The President must sign a bill in order for it to become law False – it can be left unsigned and if congress is in session it passes, or if he vetoes it can be overridden by congress

6 Round 5: Misc. 1.Why is the term for a Supreme Court Judge unlimited? To prevent any political pressure from impacting their decisions – no threat of being fired 2.Why was the Bill of Rights added to the Constitution? So that the anti-federalist states would ratify the Const. and to protect natural rights 3.What is the Constitution? A framework of government – a plan 4.After the President makes a treaty, how is it “checked”? The Senate has to approve it 5.Name one weakness of the Articles of Confederation corrected by the Constitution. No abilitly to collect taxes, can’t draft an army, only one branch of government
