2 Why high adventure? Give younger scouts something to look forward to as they get older (14 ish). Provide specialized adventures through BSA (Mountain Climbing, Sailing, SCUBA)

4 Why SEABASE? We are planning a Sea base Trip June 2007 –Sea Adventures –Deep Sea Fishing –Sailing –Snorkeling

5 What are the Physical Requirements for Seabase? Physically Fit –Class 3 medical Form Can not weigh over 300 lbs. Age –14 by September 1 st –Complete BSA Swim Test

6 Physical Limitations So if I am 14 yrs old 6 foot 2 inches tall and 165 lbs I meet the Physical Requirements

7 STRICT MEDICAL REQUIREMENTS For (SCUBA) Insulin-Dependent Diabetes Mellitus Seizure Disorders or Epilepsy Asthma If the Scout has a history of Medical Problems Additional Medical Documentation is Required

8 The Route to Seabase 1,000 Miles or about 20 Hours

9 Primary Question is how to get there from here? Three Airports near SEABASE Exist Airfare is between $300 - $600 Round Trip 1 Vehicle ~ $200/person

10 What Programs Are Offered?

11 Location of Seabase 9 Different Adventures 3 Locations –Two in Florida Keys Lower Matecumbe Key Summerland Key –Abaco, Bahamas Scuba

12 There are 9 Different Programs Out Island Coral Reef SCUBA (2) Beginner & Advanced Florida Keys Adventure Program Sea Exploring (Large Group) Bahamas (2) (International) Ocean Adventure (Age requirement 16)

13 Cost Varies between Adventures, but generally between $500 – $700 per person Sailing Adventures are less expensive All Adventures have Minimum and Maximum number of People

14 How to Sign up Adventures at SEABASE go on year round. Slots are competitive Slots for the Summer of 2007 will be pulled from a lottery in Winter 2006 –Enter Lottery on-line Jan 15 th – Feb 15 th –Pay $100.00/scout deposit after selected –Pay Half of total by August 2006 –Deposit is transferable but not refundable

15 We are considering a Sailing Adventure in Early June 2007 Total Cost /person is ~$700 Includes Transportation and 8 day Sailing Adventure

17 Travel Cost If we Drive –Time on Road (20 Hours) –1 van = 1 crew (2 adults 6 scouts) –Gas = ~$300 –Food (6 people x 12 meals x $10.00) = $720 –Total = $300+$720=$1020 ~$200/person

18 Cost SCUBA Program is $700.00 Estimate $150 for spending (i.e. wet suit $5.00/day, t-shirts, patches) Travel to Seabase (minimum ($200)/Person) Total cost ~ $1000.00
