1 Final Year Project 1 (FYP 1) CHAPTER 1 : INTRODUCTION
IAS 3232 Final Year Project 1 (FYP 1) CHAPTER 1 : INTRODUCTION

2 FYP Structure - RECALL FYP 1 (14 weeks) FYP 2 (14 weeks)
Project Proposal Prepare project proposal (independently) Duration: 2 weeks Project Documentation 1 Conduct investigation regarding the topic and prepare documentation for presentation Produce prototype Duration: 12 weeks Project Documentation 2 Develop and implementation of project that proposed during FYP 1 Duration: 14 weeks

3 Application/Product Development
classification of FYP Application/Product Development Problem statement is from the client side Expected to provide solution to that specific client only Research Based Identify the issue with the current technique or approach, to solve certain problem Based on the identified problem… provide new solution in terms of technique or approach.

4 Chapter 1 The introduction part is another trigger for the reader. If after reading this part, the user is not bored yet, you have won him over. It should: Present the problem under investigation Indicate the Aim and Objective of the project Scope of Project Indicate a timeline for the project Include the distribution of task

5 Chapter 1 – introduction outline
Background of Study Problems Statement Objective Scope of Study Hardware & Software Requirements Significance of Project Constraint & Critical Assumption Project Management

6 Background of study The choice of a specific subject for study begins in its wider context, comprising a variety of issues. This background (or context) helps to understand the specific problems addressed by the study. The various elements considered at this stage should be related among them to show how they lead to the problem that is going to be isolated and treated by the student. *not related with the client instead should concentrate more on domain (project domain)

7 Problem statement State the existing problem that need to be solved
Why you want to solve it Each of the identified problem can be described in single paragraph. Don’t provide the solution at this stage. The current issue should be completely explained and discussed. Sample: You want to create a language voice recognition system since the system is not exist. If already exist then what is the problem with the existing one.

8 objective Describe the purpose and aims of the project which give more detailed information than the project scope. The following questions are applicable: What in general will this project try to achieve? What will this project focus on? What IS NOT covered by this project? Common mistake: Stating learning objectives instead of project objectives. For example, learning programming languages, tools etc. Treating project timelines as project objectives.

9 Scope of study The scope of the study simply refers to the extent of coverage of the subject matter being investigated and the proper statement of the problem will serve as a useful guide to doing this. In other words, if the problem had been properly stated at the on-set, it assists, automatically, in defining the scope of the research. That is why the scope of the study is partly a function of the title of the research project.

10 Hardware and software requirements
State the hardware and software used in this project For each of the stated hardware and software, need to identify the purpose and specification of it.

11 Significance of project
It is expected that every research project must have something new to contribute to knowledge in that subject area, however small. This segment is expected to explain the likely benefits of the project and to whom such expected benefits would be meant. It can be serialized/itemized or paraphrased depending on the individual’s style of writing.

12 Constraint and critical assumption
CONSTRAINT Project may be affected by different problems which could be either political or financial or security or ethical or lack of relevant sources. These problems may undermine the work- plan or even the objectivity of the results of the research. CRITICAL ASSUMPTION Assumption that had been made in the project.

13 Project management Include the planning in terms of scheduling and budget into this section Advisable to provide Gantt Chart with the clear articulation of the needed task.
