Science Operation Readiness Review ICESat SIPS (I-SIPS) Status N0v 30, 2001 David Hancock ICESat Science Ground System Manager 757 824 1238 David.Hancock@gsfc.nasa.gov

Agenda Overview Technical Architecture Diagram External Interfaces Performance and Functional Status Required/expected data flows Management Facilities Documentation I-SIPS Operations Overview Hardware and Software Status Operations Staffing I-SIPS Operations Plans and Procedures Discrepancy Status Work Remaining Summary

Overview –I-SIPS Processing Requirements Slide 5 and 6 of science data processing workshop http://glas.wff.nasa.gov/docs/sci_data_wksh p.pdf

Product descriptions Level 1A – calibrated Altimeter, Atmosphere, and instrument pointing data Level 1 B – Full rate basic Geophysical Altimeter and Atmosphere data Level 2- Surface Elevation and Cloud/Aersol data Level 3 – Selected parameters compressed for global coverage

Operational Load With no reprocessing 218 granules produced per day with reprocessing average 654 granules Total files handled with no reprocessing is 1018 per day with reprocessing average of 2,810 files per day

ISIPS ARCHITECTURAL DIAGRAM Slide 5 of john’s presentation in CA http://glas.wff.nasa.gov/docs/isips_1.pdf

External Interfaces Table 5.9 from Lutz ICD

Performance and Functional Status Put in V2 Test performance numbers?

Facilities John’s picture slide of bldg 22

Facilities Hardware except backup processor is in place Network connections are inplace- Upgrade due for bldg 22 to 33 connection

Documentation CDR Nov 99? slide updated to current version/date and adding security plan, QA plan, Operation Procedure if not there.

Hardware and Software Status Minimum required hardware in place Software Version 2 delivered – Minimum effort could make operational to make science team available products but would not meet requirements for distribution

Operations Staffing I-SIPS Staffing is 12 hours by 5 days Call in by pager if error detected Monitor from home Positions (Put on next slide?) –Filled Operations Leader System Admin Programmer Database Admin –Open Operator Data Tech Data QA

Training and Certification Suneel?

Operations Plans and Procedures Status Operational Status with NSIDC –IGST-6.2 all NSIDC flows tested except L0 retrieval from NSIDC Plans for reacting to science software and instrument anomalies –Redundant machine to test new deliveries –Maintenances programmer on staff Plans for reacting to DAAC/ECS anomalies –Within I-SIPS not using much ECS software –No ECS software required to deliver products to science team –Automatic system for ingest of data –Reprocessing will be automated

Discrepancy Status List DR that Susan has on I-SIPS List V3 none delivered items

Present work remaining/ work- off plans and dates Deliver V3 at 3 months before launch Focus on the critical work that must be completed V2 plus can support launch Prioritize the remaining work and provide impacts

Summary Issues –Personnel training/Staffing Concerns –EDOS Status –As of 10/17/01 I-SIPS not ready for Launch –Should have version that can support launch 2/02 –Launch ready version 4/02
