The 6th Grader’s Manual for Middle School Designed and Programmed by : Sam Wessells

Anecdote In my personal experience, organization really means a lot in middle school. Staying organized enables you to keep up with your papers, some of which may be crucial to your grades. One time I lost an assignment paper, but found it in my homework folder! I thought it would be in my writing tab in my binder. Even though you may have many places to put your stuff in, you still need to keep everything organized.

Compare & Contrast 6 th Grade Alike  Most people you will know  Specials (Connections)  School store  Still eat at same time (noon)  Still behavior issues Different Desks are attached to chairs Different specials (technology, band,) School sports School sports Many teachers & classes More work (projects, etc.)

Problem&Solution

Problem 1. I'm lost. If you're lost, then ask a teacher or nearby adult. It's best to practice finding your way to homeroom, or any other class for that matter. Many of the classes (especially connections) are spread out in the building. If you practice, you will almost make a habit out of going somewhere. Then you won't even notice that you're going there by heart!

Problem 2. My teacher gave me “lunch detention”. Lunch detention is where you get into trouble and you have to either sit at the middle table in the lunch room, or go to the teacher's room that gave it to you, where you eat in there. Lunch detention is a very horrible thing to expeience. You can't talk to anybody, and there's nobody near you. That, is why they do it in my opinion. It is shameful and embarrassing. All your teachers and friends get to watch you eat all by yourself. Don't ever get it!

Problem 3. I'm on a different team than all my friends. Try to meet new people. Who knows? You might make a really good friend on your team! Besides, you'll see your old friends anyways. It's always nice to have a friend that you can have fun with.

Problem 4. My teachers are mean. Behave. Teachers will get on to you harshly if you don't. Always turn in your work exactly on time. Try not to be late to class or lockers. Pay attention to all their instructions, and write everything down so you won't forget something.

Problem 5. I don't know if I should do clubs. As I said before, try. It's an opportunity to learn about your favorite things, and to have fun with your friends. Make sure you check your schedule at home, though. Clubs are held after school on certain days. You should make sure you have nothing going on that day after school if you want to do a club.

Cause & Effect Cause   I got lunch detention.   I got straight A’s.   I like music and singing.   I didn’t remember the hard drive for that project.   My hobby is writing.Effect You will most likely get lunch detention and miss out on fun stuff. You are able to participate in Beta Club. You might want to try chorus or band. Your teacher will probably make you do it “old-school” (paper and a pencil.) You should join the literary writing staff. They include student’s writings in the magazine.

Description In order to be a successful eagle at Madras Middle School, you need to have what we call The Eagle Pride. Make good choices, Accept responsibility, Demonstrate kindness, Respect yourself and others, Applaud success, and Stay on task. Be chivalrous and treat everyone as you want to be treated. Don’t bully, and do all your work with cheer and a bright attitude. Help out a friend in need, and respect the people in charge over you. Keep the Eagle Pride alive!

My Expert Class. My best (and favorite) class would be band. It is a time where you can learn and play music while having a blast at the same time. Before school starts, the band leader, Mr. Collins (or affectionally called “Mr. C”), holds an “audition” where you can go to the school cafeteria and try out different instruments to find the right one for you. You can participate in concerts, or for exceptional performance, honor band.
