3 Important Handouts/Information Money for Tips Enclosed in an envelope with your name on it give that to Cara or Stacy by the door Photo Book –For the EF directors and all the traveling adults Complete travel itinerary – June 12-20 th –Pre-Departure meeting set for June 11 th, 2013 at 6-7pm –You must provide transportation to GEG (Spokane Airport) – Meeting at 6:00 am June 12 th, 2013. EF Group Rules and Roles – Review and sign tonight before you leave Complete the Traveler Emergency and Insurance Form –Return completed with all colored copies of items by May 22 nd

4 We are still working on rooming for this trip. We have had some people drop from the trip and need to reorganize a bit. Understand that this might change depending on our grouping needs while on the ground. Each person should be rooming with at least one person that they requested but that is not guaranteed, BE FLEXIBLE we are going to China Room Request Information

5 Luggage Pack once, then remove 1/3 Parents have the final say on what you pack. Lost luggage – pack light? One Small Carry-on Plus on Personal Item (WE RECOMMEND) Pack an extra bag and send gifts home

6 See Haley’s sample packing list (on website) –Carry-on: The maximum dimensions cannot exceed any of the following measurements: –22" long x 14" wide x 9" tall or 114cm (56 x 35 x 23 cm). All carry-on items should be stowed in an overhead bin. –Personal Item: includes: purse, briefcase, laptop bag OR a similar item such as a tote that does not exceed 36 inches( length+width+height) and must fit under the seat in front of you. –Checked Luggage: Two checked luggage items with no charge… on the way home

7 Liquids, Gels, and Meds Remember hotels will have shampoo/conditioner/soap too Pack limited liquids – 1 quart-size clear plastic zip lock Toiletries – shampoo, toothpaste, mouthwash, perfume, shaving foam, aerosols, deodorant, eye care products Have all medications in their original packaging and have the prescription on hand.

11 What Can I Do to Prepare For the Trip? Do you own personal research online! Ask people who have lived in China about their thoughts about traveling in Asia. Check out books in the library about the history of China. Be aware of cultural differences between eastern culture and western culture. Enjoy the experience!

14 Mandarin Chinese The Mandarin language does not have an alphabet, per se. There are characters which are aligned with a pronunciations or tones. The Pinyin is a method of translating the Chinese tones into the Roman alphabet is for people to learn the tones a little easier. When pronouncing Mandarin, care must be taken to not only pronounce them with the same sound, but also at the same pitch or tone.
