4. What Is A Mental Map? A mental map is a map in your mind. We all have mental maps but some are more refined than others. We all have a mental map of the world. Some people know more countries but we should all know basic things like where the continents are in relation to each other.

5. Do you Need a Map To… Find your way to the bus stop in the morning? Go to the bathroom in school? Get around Newport News? Find countries such as Iraq, China, and Russia?

6. People Use Mental Maps … To carry out daily activities such as shopping and going to school or work. Give directions to other people. Understand world events.

7. Ways Mental Maps Can Be Developed and Refined A. Comparing sketch maps to maps in atlases or other resources B. Describing the location of places in terms of reference points D. Describing the location of places in terms of the human characteristics of a place C. Describing the location of places in terms of geographic features and land forms

8. Comparing Mental Maps Pair up with someone and compare your mental maps. Write down different color for each mental map how your mental map differs from your partner. MUST STAPLE YOU AND YOUR PARTNERS MAP TOGETHER. Different color then above refine your mental map. I will pick this up 5 mins. before the class is over. NO EXCUSE!
