1 Maths Parent Workshop (Session 4)

2 Aims of the Workshops To raise standards in maths by working closely with parents. To provide parents with a clear outline of the key features of maths teaching at Grafton Primary School. To provide parents with materials that they can use at home to support children’s maths development.

3 Multiplication Tables The key to working out multiplication and Division calculations efficiently and accurately, is being secure with multiplication tables. Below are the expectations for each year group.  Year 1 - Count in multiples of 2,5 and 10. Recall and use doubles of all numbers to 10 and corresponding halves.  Year 2 - Recall and use multiplication and division facts for the 2, 5 and 10 multiplication tables, including recognising odd and even numbers.  Year 3 - Recall and use multiplication and division facts for the 3, 4 and 8 multiplication tables.  Year 4 - Recall multiplication and division facts for multiplication tables up to 12 × 12.  Year 5 - Revision of all times tables and division facts up to 12 x 12.  Year 6 - Revision of all times tables and division facts up to 12 x 12

4 Division  Sharing or Grouping, using groups of objects. E.g. There are 6 sweets shared between 2 people. How many do they get each?  Short Division (Bus Stop Method)  Long Division (Chunking Method)
