1 An exercise in close “viewing”

2  The following pictures have all been taken from The New York Times. The caption and all other identifying information has been removed from the photo. Your job is to look closely at the photo and try to figure out what’s going on in the image.  All photos can be found at http://learning.blogs.nytimes.com/category/lesson-plans/whats- going-on-in-this-picture/

3 Your job each day is to look closely at the picture and answer three questions: 1.What’s going on in this picture? 2.What do you see that makes you say that? 3.What more can you find?

4 Each day, write the date on your paper and the number of the picture we’re viewing that day. Then answer those three questions in a short paragraph. You will have four minutes to do this.

5 At the end of the time, one person will share what he or she thinks is going on in the picture and why. To wrap up each day, I’ll share with you the real caption and background behind the photograph.
