2 + Goal of the EHLE PROJECT To develop a Training System aimed at providing professionals dealing with older people with appropriate knowledge/tools to teach other older adults how to understand health related information and healthy lifestyle messages. Background The health of our population of older persons is an asset. Giving tools to them to make the most of their health has an invaluable social impact because adds value to the health of the general population

3 + From the beginning to the final product… 1. Perception analysis to define the CONTEST 2. TRAINING SYSTEM development 3. Literature review and SCIENTIFIC Evidence collection 4. PILOT TRAININGS in Italy and France for testing and experimenting the training material 5. Multimedia TRAINING TOOLKIT development 6. Creation of a Handbook, a MANUAL of OPERATION Final TRAINING TOOLKIT in 5 languages

4 + 1. Perception Analysis Questionnaire on elderly people perception of healthy lifestiles 300 older people interviewed in Italy 300 older people interviewed in France 300 older people interviewed in Alicante-Spain 300 older people interviewed in The Netherlands

5 + 2. Training System development: Five modules Theoretical Framework: “Patient Empowerment”. Key elements of the EHLE Project Approach: Empowerment through Patient Communication to improve the understanding of the problem (risks and benefits) Motivate to change through positive messages Attention to the social network (friends, family, etc) the older person is in Multidisciplinary/Multifactor Approach to health problems Methodologies aimed at overcoming the limits of traditional solutions Behavioural Change Approach : COMMUNICATE RISKS related to a certain lifestyle (to improve the understanding of the problem) MOTIVATE the older person to change SET SMART GOALS: Specific, Measurable, Achievable, Relevant, Timeable

8 + HANDBOOK... A practical guide in 4 languages for professionals and persons dealing with elderly to make the best from the EHLE Training Toolkit...

9 + Final result: EHLE Training toolkit: Handbook with project description, training instructions, biblyography. Project Poster Flyers DVD with Project VideoVideo Interactive version of the handbook (hyperlinks) Powerpoint Presentations Training support material Videos

10 + EHLE Project additional results The mix of competencies (educational, scientific, policy-making) and cultures (2 Mediterranean and 2 northern countries) within the partnership gave the project the benefit of cross-fertilization in terms of different methodological approaches and different cultural perspectives. The partner institutions worked together to give voice to their experiences, gained from their daily work with elderly people and in social action through which people and communities take responsibility for their own health.
