5  How would you define peace?  1 : a state of tranquility or quiet: as a : freedom from civil disturbance b : a state of security or order within a community provided for by law or custom  2 : freedom from disquieting or oppressive thoughts or emotions  3 : harmony in personal relations

7  What is violence?  1 a : exertion of physical force so as to injure or abuse (as in warfare effecting illegal entry into a house) b : an instance of violent treatment or procedure  2 : injury by or as if by distortion, infringement, or profanation  3 a : intense, turbulent, or furious and often destructive action or force b : vehement feeling or expression :

13  Two conditions must be joined to learn this principle: a. noticing the good in people and situations b. giving praise and recognition for it

14  Announce a Praise Hour.  Use of Written Praise. Praise Notes, Praise Boards  List and Post the Power Words. Please, thank you, excuse me, may I help you, I apologize for_________.  Meet and greet students by name.

15  Types of put-downs a. verbal b. nonverbal c. environmental d. cultural e. organizational

16  What is a wise person? - “heroes” - positive role models - someone that can be trusted - someone that makes you feel safe and protected

17  Three key concepts: a. noticing the hurt b. identifying the hurt c. making amends

18  Learn to notice when someone was hurt, whether intentionally or not  Develop empathy and compassion  Helps develop the skills of caring communication and involvement with one another.

19  Applying the lessons of history so that past wrongs won’t be repeated  Making a difference first within the community then to the bigger world  Making a better world for everyone to live in
