1 Introduction to our reality
Harris Moysiadis, Future Intelligence, Member of the AIOTI Athens (Greece), 25th November 2015

2 Technology Interplay Internet of Things (IoT) Ecosystem IoT Platforms
Federation Inter-operability Cloud Big data 5G Semantics User Centric Security Trust Privacy Architecture Reference Model Security/Privacy/Trust by Design

3 IoT Opportunities for Growth in the EU
IDC expects the IoT market in EU to expand yearly over 20% in value between 2013 and 2020 IDC: International Data Corporation More IoT revenues in the EU28: increase from more than €307 bn in 2013 to more than €1,181 bn in 2020.

4 Five key challenges on IoT in the EU
Rapid technological development Users' take up and acceptability Need to move into deployment Risk of fragmentation International competition Intelligence at the edge vs. intelligence in the cloud, security and privacy, connectivity and reliability of data transmission at large scale, semantic interoperability Privacy, security, legal framework, user-friendliness Uncertainty about business models Uncertainty about standard. Between siloes, between standards, between MS

5 What has the European Commission done until now?
51 M€ EC funding in 2015 for IoT Innovation Ecosystems IoT: hot topic for industry, investors and start-ups in Europe 140 M€ EC funding in for IoT In FP7 - 3 calls 100 M€ budget for R&D and piloting (see IERC-WG1)

7 Alliance for Internet of Things Innovation (AIOTI)
Official launch of the AIOTI (25/03/2015)

8 Structure of the AIOTI

9 Why the AIOTI is unique? IERC: European Research Cluster on the Internet of Things

10 AIOTI Mission Areas Deployment IoT Ecosystem IoT Uptake
Identify barriers Gather evidence Contribute to the Digital Single Market IoT Ecosystem Build across different application areas Mapping and bridging of IoT innovation activities Encourage the growth of start-ups in IoT IoT Uptake Large Scale Pilots Identify spearhead players Communicate Champion Experimentation, replication and deployment Convergence Interoperability H2020

11 More than 350 AIOTI members from 24 countries
Large companies Start-ups To achieve these goals, in March 2015, the European Commission launched the Alliance for Internet of Things Innovation (AIOTI) to strengthen links and build new relationships between the different IoT players (industries, SMEs, startups) and sectors. It also promotes interoperability and convergence between standards, facilitating policy debates and preparing a Commission's initiative for large scale testing and experimentation, tabled for 2016. Forging new alliances between IoT sectors, stakeholders, large companies, SMEs and startups will help Europe get a global lead in this field and will foster a Digital Single Market for IoT, thus allowing the EU to reach revenues from the IoT of more than one trillion euros in 2020. Pursuing such an ambitious goal, although the Alliance has been recently born, it has already managed to join a large list of more than 450 members from different sectors, thus bringing together: Different industries: nanoelectronics/semiconductor companies, Telecom companies, Network operators, Platform Providers (IoT/Cloud), Security and Service providers. Different sectors: energy, utilities, automotive, mobility, lighting, buildings, manufacturing, healthcare, supply chains, cities, etc. Some of the worldwide largest companies: Alcatel, Bosch, Cisco, Hildebrand, IBM, Intel, Landis+Gyr, Nokia, ON Semiconductor, Orange, OSRAM, ABB, ACM, Philips, Samsung, Schneider Electric, Siemens, NXP Semiconductors, STMicroelectronics, Telecom Italia, Telefonica, Telit, Thales, Vodafone, Volvo, Huawei and counting. Many Small and Medium Enterprises (SMEs) and start-ups As explained above, the AIOTI members currently comprise many IoT industry players and successful start-ups, which is the evidence of the hard and intense work carried out by the AIOTI over the past few months. The next step is to involve more IoT players including SMEs and start-ups, as the Alliance for Internet of Things Innovation (AIOTI) is still open to new members. Membership is open to any entity (firm/corporation/association) recognised by law and have a distinct legal personality, that demonstrates having a legitimate interest in being part of the Alliance. Joining AIOTI: You become member of a unique network which brings together the European and world IoT key players across the value chain both from the private and public sector. You get a special link with the EU Institutions and the EU Member states. You contribute in the shaping of the EU policy-making on IoT. You are given the unique opportunity to contribute to the design of EU IoT large scale pilots Later on, EU Member States will also be fully associated to this initiative boosting this dynamic ecosystem further. Associations SMEs AIOTI is an IoT global key player and the voice of #Europe on #IoT
