Future Internet Research & Experimentation (FIRE+) Integrating experiments & facilities in FIRE+ H2020-ICT/FET National Contact Points Training 23 October 2013
2
Agenda FIRE challenges to be addressed in WP2014-15 ICT 11 – 2014: FIRE+ ICT 12 – 2015: Integrating experiments & facilities in FIRE+ Expected Impact Where else can I find FIRE?
3
FIRE challenges in WP2014-15 FIRE (Future Internet Research and Experimentation) Build a Strategic Experimental Infrastructure (FIRE+) Controlled and replicable conditions for experiments Seamless experimentation regardless of geography Affordable access for small- and medium-size innovators Real-world prototyping and experimenting environments Reap benefits from similar initiatives around the world.
4
ICT 11 – 2014: FIRE+ Research & Innovation Actions Collaborative projects for the creation, reconfiguration and/or extension of experimental infrastructures Experimentation leveraging GÉANT Experimentation-as-a-Service (EaaS) Virtual Experimentation Ad hoc, on demand federation and reconfiguration of facilities At least 50% of funding for selecting users, experiments, etc.
5
ICT 11 – 2014: FIRE+ (cont.) Innovation Actions Ideas for prototyping and experimentation, testing and validation – from identification to actual experimentation On top of FIRE+ and in real world environments
6
ICT 11 – 2014: FIRE+ (cont.) Coordination and Support Actions Identification of European, national and regional experimental facilities for integration into FIRE+ Roadmap: future needs for advanced networking experimentation International cooperation: concrete, reciprocal actions in short- and medium-term with US GENI & preparation for multilateral experimentation and federation around the world.
7
ICT 12 – 2015: Integrating experiments & facilities in FIRE+ Research & Innovation Actions Integration of experimental facilities from Call 1 into FIRE+ Experimentally-driven research on top of existing experimental infrastructures in any of the areas under Call 1 At least 50% of funding for selecting users, experiments, etc. Innovation Actions Technically mature experiments for close-to-market products, applications or services (SME participation – EIT)
8
(Additional) Expected Impact Cover a variety of networking technology areas Achieve economies of scale and RoI on infrastructure Reduce the time to experiment Impact other application areas, e.g. Connected Smart Cities Contribute to standardisation and interoperability Enable SMEs to access FIRE for innovative experimentation Promote innovative applications and services, close-to-market, short-term, focused, mature ideas.
9
Where else can I find FIRE? In other (mainly Future Internet) specific challenges ICT 5 – 2014: Smart Networks and Novel Internet Architectures ICT 10 – 2015: CAPs for Sustainability and Social Innovation ICT 14 – 2014: Advanced 5G Network Infrastructure for the FI ICT 19 – 2015: Technologies for creative industries, … In ICT cross-cutting activities ICT 30 – 2015: Internet of Things and Platforms for Connected … Under International Cooperation activities EUB 3 – 2015: Experimental Platforms EUJ 4 – 2014: Experimentation & development on federated testbeds
