2 About Tala Pasifika The Service has been developed to ensure Pacific people: Have their say on tobacco issues Are actively involved in eliminating tobacco from their communities Have a way of coordinating important tobacco control information and activities

3 Target Audience Pacific Children Pacific Adolescents (13-19yrs) All Pacific Males Pregnant Women Cook Islands Females

4 Our Goal and objectives Goal: Pacific input into the Maori Select committee enquiry: Objectives: 1)To raise the awareness of the Maori Select Committee enquiry 2)To mobilise as many Pacific written submissions 3) To mobilise Pacific provider and community support for the Pacific oral submissions in Auckland.

5 The Plan Deliberately use the information and evidence we had on Pacific people. Understand our Pacific Principals Select priority advocacy issues Fast pace a build up of credibility and trust Have a clear position

10 Activities 1.National workshop led by ASH, Smokefree Coalition and Te Reo Marama. 2.Face to face visitations to: Early Childhood centres Pacific youth services 3. Presentations to: Pacific Health and Welfare Inc PACIFICA womens 4. Tala Pasifika written and oral submission

11 Our top priorities for 2010-2012 1.Eliminate exposure to second hand smoke 2.Prevent Pacific young people from smoking 3.Eliminate tobacco related disparities with a focus on our target audiences
