2 Barack Obama Barack Obama, a 47 year old. First term senator from Illinois. Shattered more than 200 years of history Tuesday night. By winning election as a the first African- American president of the United States. Barack Obama is making history as the nation celebrates Black month but not just as a black man getting this far in the run for the White House.

3 Elijah McCoy Elijah McCoy did his first invention, a lubricating cup was used in steam cylinder of the trains and other machinery. Some of Elijah’s other inventions were ironing board and lawn sprinkler. During his lifetime, Elijah was awarded over 57 patents and because known as one of the great black inventors of the 19 th.

4 Althea Gibson Althea Gibson she became the first black person to win major titles in tennis. She attended Florida A&M University on a tennis scholarship. In 1957 and 1958, she won the Championship at Wimbledon, England and the U.S. open ranking her as the number one Female tennis player both years. Later she because a successful professional golfer and was the first black woman to join the Ladies Processional Golf Association

5 Benjamin Banneker Benjamin Banneker First African American Scientist. He built a working wooden clock that kept accurate time and struck the hours for over 50 years. Banneker studied astronomy and he published an almanac. Benjamin Banneker Almanac was a top seller from Pennsylvania to Virginia and even into Kentucky from 1792 to 1797. In 1791, Banneker helped survey the land which is now known as Washington D.C.

6 Martin Luther Martin Luther King graduated from Morehouse College in Atlanta, GA in 1948. Martin Luther King was most famous for his speech is called “ I have A dream” He spoke to 250,000 People on August on August 28, 1963
