Notes 4.2 Scatter Plots and the Coordinate Plane A coordinate plane uses ordered pairs such as (4,2) to name points. The numbers are the coordinates of the points. A coordinate plane has two axes, the x-axis (horizontal) and the y-axis (vertical). The first number of the ordered pair is the x-coordinate and the second number is the y-coordinate. The origin is located where the two axes cross. The axes cross at (0,0).
2
A scatter plot is a collection of points in a coordinate plane that represents a relation- ship between two quantities.
