13. Nicholas was Bishop of Myra until his death on December 6, 343. Within two generations, Nicholas was considered a saint by the Church. He is remembered by the Christian Church on Dec. 6 th as a faithful Pastor and Confessor/Defender of the Christian Faith. Most agree that Nicholas of Myra is the origin of Santa Claus.
