The Verb TENER The verb TENER, which means “to have” follows the pattern of other -er verbs.

Other Uses of TENER As you know, TENER is sometimes used where in English we use a form of the verb “to be”:

Tener + hambre/sed. Tener expressions 1.To say you are hungry or thirsty in Spanish, you really say that you HAVE hunger or HAVE thirst. Conjugate TENER.
In English, we say He is hungry. BUT In Spanish, we say He has hunger. Él tiene hambre. In English, we say He is hungry. BUT In Spanish, we say He has.
