1. WRITING EQUATIONS IN SLOPE INTERCEPT FORM 4.2

2. What you need… ■In order to write an equation in slope intercept form you need to know 2 things: ■ y = mx + b ■ slope y- intercept

3. Finding the Slope ■There are a few choices: ■ The slope is given to you  you know the slope ■ You are given a graph  count rise/run ■ You are given two points  use the slope formula

4. Finding the y-intercept ■You will always have a point. In order to find the y-intercept: –Plug in an x and a y that you know –Solve the equation for b –Plug the b back into the original equation ■The goal is to solve for b, but your answer will always be in the form y = mx + b!!

5. Example 1 Write the equation in slope intercept form ■ Passing through the point (1,5) ■Slope m = -2

6. Example 1 Write the equation in slope intercept form ■ Passing through the point (-15,6) ■Slope m = 4/5

7. Example 1 Write the equation of the line in slope intercept form

9. Write the equation which passes through the two points ■(4, -2) (8, -5)

10. Write the equation which passes through the two points ■(-10, 7) (5, -3)

11. Write the equation in the form f(x)= mx +b and has the given values ■f(-2) = 5, f(6) = -7

12. Write the equation in the form f(x)= mx +b and has the given values ■f(-1) = -2, f(6) = 3
