The History of “Ghetto” A section of a city occupied by a minority group who lives there because of social, economic or legal pressure. That is the definition of “ghetto” as defined by The American Heritage Dictionary ® Ghetto throughout history has been a name or term used to describe a local, ethnic section of a town Typically Ghettos were enclosed or gated communities they were locked at night and during holy week in Europe.

The History of Ghetto (European) The term Ghetto originated off the Ghetto island a small island off the cost of Venice where there was a community of Jews. First established to keep Jews form catholic and protestant neighborhoods, under anti-Semitic views because Jews had their on religion judicial courts and recreational institutions. Ghettos became a affluent neighborhoods of a ethnic group of people. Although they were affluent ghettos’ processed many problems such congestion, fire hazards and unsanitary conditions.

The United States (Definition) An impoverished, neglected, or otherwise disadvantaged residential area of a city, usually troubled by a disproportionately large amount of crime. Urban of or relating to (inner) city life, poor; or relating to poor life, jury- rigged, impoverished, or homemade (usually with extremely cheap or sub-standard components), yet still deserving of an odd sense of respect from ghetto dwellers and non-ghetto dwellers alike A largely black and Hispanic community with other minority groups some white and elderly people. Is This Definition of Ghetto Correct? American Ghettos’ where created due to segregation laws, the difference between American Ghettos and European ghettos is tat European ghetto’s were walled and gated communities. American ghetto’s are a result of majorities moving form the cities of America to the suburbs causing a shift of the poor to be relegated to run down urban communities, with no resources because they have been handed to the helpless poor. Because of this Ghetto equates with poor, and uneducated.

The Definition of the Word Ghetto Ghetto means poor, cheap Why do people equate the word Ghetto with being black? Ghetto Is a person who has limited resources and uses them to get by. The main problem is that people have assumed that ghetto is part of the African American cultural.

Television is the main culprit of the Ghetto Stereotype Television throws images out there making it seem like a “ghetto” lifestyle is cool or life of extreme poverty if the right way to live. What makes a person Ghetto? Is it clothes? Is it that people are the product of their environment?

Conclusion So a person is not ghetto. And neither are their actions. Ghetto is a noun so it is a segregated community in which racial and national minorities live. In conclusion a Ghetto is an ethnic neighborhood. It is not a person or a way of acting. A Ghetto is a good thing when used in the right context, but must be clearly defined because of its many uses and misconceptions.
