Math:
In Math, we are about to complete unit 3 and begin unit 4. In these units your child will be working on:
Telling time to the hour, half hour, and quarter hour
Counting coin combinations
Completing frames and arrows problems
Measuring in feet and inches
Literacy:
In Literacy we will be analyzing and reading nonfiction text. Your child should become aware of traditional nonfiction text features such as captions, headings, table of contents, etc. We will also be comparing fiction text to nonfiction text . This is a great opportunity at home for you to ask questions such as, “How do you know this is a non-fiction book?”
Science:
In science we are learning about light and sound. We will:
Plan and conduct investigations that vibrating materials can make sound
Make observations to observe that objects can only be seen when they are illuminated
Conduct investigations to determine the effect of placing objects made with different materials in the path of a beam of light
Reminders: Starting the first week of November, the school will be holding a can food drive. All of this food will be going to a local charity. Any items you have at home that you can donate would be appreciated. During our student of community helpers we talked as a class about ways to volunteer in our community. This is a great opportunity for students to learn about volunteering and supporting their community. We will be discussing these ideas further.
