Take part in community initiatives, collaboratives and work groups. 2.Be open to the conversation, it’s key to hear the essence of who your partners are and what they’re hoping to achieve with a project 3.It takes open communication 4.Remember, committing doesn’t mean over committing 5.It should leverage your core infrastructure and positioning 6.It should be replicable 7.It should make sense for: a. your callers b. your partners c. improving your services

12 Board Meeting January 25, 2011 The Commitment: To build a map of key resources for a high need zip code in South East San Diego The Costs: Continuing participation in a county regional collaborative, 25 hours in staff time over 6 months. $625.00 staff time. The Gain: $5,000.00 to build 2-3 additional maps requiring about 3-4 additional maps, top billing in County 10 year Initiative, and improved relationships opening the door to appointment setting in 11 community clinics and 2 dental clinics

13 Board Meeting January 25, 2011 The Commitment: a webpage to improve access to Summer Food sites for youth with a mainpage link on the 211sandiego.org site. The Costs: $150.00 for web development and 8 hours of staff time. Total cost $450.00. The Gain: Financially… zero.

14 Board Meeting January 25, 2011 The Commitment: To build a webpage of vital resources for individuals transitioning out of the local jail system. The Costs: $1200.00 in web development The Gain: $30,000.00 in funding, strengthened relationship with the San Diego County District Attorney’s Office, The San Diego Re-entry Roundtable, and San Diego Sheriff’s Department Correctional Counselors

15 Board Meeting January 25, 2011 $625.00+$450.00+$1200.00= $35,000 in unrestricted funds Improved access to vital services for our community Strengthened positioning in a 10 year County Initiative Stronger Relationships with countless service providers Appointment Setting at 11 Community Clinics and 2 Dental Clinics A seat at the table with the Secretary of Agriculture and an opportunity to promote 2-1-1 as in industry Priceless
