YouTube Project by Jennifer Sisco-Smith November 10, 2015 EDTC 635 Prof. Mountain Link to my YouTube Playlist: https://www.youtube.com/playlist?list=PLnrG03GscO9O n16Oql1WWpgf-MC261dDu

About My YouTube Project The playlist of videos (5 in total) that I created focus on the topic of persuasive/argument writing. Each video explains a different aspect of writing a persuasive piece and uses a student model of a persuasive essay to as a sample and step-by- step guide. They could be viewed individually or as a set. Target Audience: Middle School Language Arts CCSS: (grade 7 standards) W 7.1, W 7.4, W 7.5, W 7.10, SL 7.2, SL 7.3, L 7.3, L 7.4, L 7.6

Brainy Bits Using this video as a learning and modeling tool in the classroom can be both visually (occipital lobe) as well as auditorily (temporal lobes) stimulating for students. Sense and Meaning: –Sense: Students will be able to make sense of the information about persuasive writing (such as terms or elements of organizational structure) through my explanations in the video. –Meaning: Deeper meaning is created through the screencasts of an actual student model of persuasive writing. Students will not only view the student sample essay, but will also hear and see my thought process (as a teacher) as I read it.

Pedagogy Multiple Intelligences: –Visual/Spatial Learners: Viewing these videos and seeing a sample essay will be appealing to these learners. Also, I have added various visual aides such as using the highlighted pointer to point certain things out during the screencasts as well as overlaid annotations to enhance the visual impact of the videos and screencasts. –Linguistic Learners: These videos and screencasts focus on persuasive writing. Dealing with the written word is appealing to those with more of a linguistic intelligence. Also, all of the videos involve both reading and listening to the spoken word for explanations.

Pedagogy (continued) Multiple Intelligences (continued): –Logical/Mathematical Learners: In my videos, the process of writing a persuasive essay is broken down and explained in a very formulaic manner. Also, in order to argue one’s opinion well, a student needs to learn to use logical reasoning and provide relevant supporting details to explain to soundness of their reasoning/arguments and to enhance their writing.
