3 Identify reasons people left Europe/England to travel to the New World. Who is Baltimore and Maryland named after and why was the colony founded?

4 Where were early Marylanders from? What socio-economic class did most early Marylanders come from? How much education did early Marylanders have? How do researchers/historians know this? What was the life expectancy of an early Marylander? Why was alcohol in such demand?

5 Distribute “Position of the first 3 groups of settlers in Virginia” Examine the list of settlers who came to Virginia and hypothesize/infer about why certain individuals came/did not come

6 Serving Time in Virginia Compare/contrast colonial Virginia to colonial Maryland Reasons for founding Differences in religion Chesapeake region-quasi separate but a part of the Southern region

7 Turn to your neighbor and identify the similarities and differences between the early Marylanders and early Virginians. You may use a Venn Diagram to organize your thoughts

8 Compare and contrast the experiences, reasons for founding, and the way of life of the settlers of Jamestown and Maryland

9 Quiz on Chapter 1 for Thursday.
