Homework V Independent Learning
Homework is only effective when a student is provided with a meaningful opportunity to review and consolidate learning independently from their taught lessons. Hence, here at UTC Bolton, we refer to homework as independent learning. Independent learning tasks are only set when sufficient learning has taken place to review and consolidate knowledge, understanding and skills.

Introducing our Independent Learning Calendar
Every parent has usually asked the question, ‘Have you got any homework?’. The familiar response, ‘No!’, often ends the dialogue. Our Independent Learning Calendar lets you see what topics are currently being taught across the curriculum and what independent learning challenges have been set.

Find out how much each cost and show how much money you will save in the long term. 4 Electric Cars Produce a summary poster, showing all the energy transfers in an electric car. Use Sankey Diagrams in your description. 5 Flat TVs Investigate the type of TVs available in the market. Summaries your findings by showing which one is the best in terms of power consumption, efficiency, value for money and quality. 6 Cost of Electricity Find out how much your electricity you use at home and how much it cost for a whole month. If you have a smart meter at home, use that to monitor your energy usage. Use your bill at home to explain your energy consumption and cost. 7 Review of work Produce a mind map of work that has been completed to date. This should be on an A3 sheet. Notes
