Grace Fellowship Church Pastor/Teacher - Jim Rickard www.GraceDoctrine.org Sunday, October 6, 2013

Prov 3:5, “Trust in the LORD with all your heart and do not lean on your own understanding.”

The Book of Proverbs Chapter 10 Unit 6, Contrasting Speech Conclusion. Vs. 31-32

Prov 10:31

Prov 10:31 The positive believer uses his words to evangelize the lost or exhort his fellow believers, bringing life to his hearers.

“Flows” - NUB, נוּב, “To increase or thrive, to bear fruit, to grow or increase.” Psa 92:14; Zech 9:17

Psa 92:12, “The righteous man will flourish like the palm tree, he will grow like a cedar in Lebanon. 13 Planted in the house of the LORD, they will flourish in the courts of our God. 14 They will still yield fruit in old age; they shall be full of sap and very green, 15 To declare that the LORD is upright; He is my rock, and there is no unrighteousness in Him.”

The words of the positive believer edify those he speaks to rather than tearing them down, as most people’s words tend to do these days.

The Contrast!

The Contrast! The lush fruitful plant is vibrant and growing, yet the perverted tongue is cut off because it is not producing fruit, Divine Good. Cf. John 15:1-6; Isa 5:1-6.

Speaking perverted things = gossiping, maligning, slandering, lying, blaspheming, antagonism towards God, His Word and His people. Prov 2:12, 14: 6:14; 8:13

Prov 2:12, “To deliver you from the way of evil, from the man who speaks perverse things.”

“Will be cut out”, KARATH, כָּרַת “To cut off, cut down, exterminate, or destroy”, as a result of their evil ways, cf. Prov 2:22.

Prov 2:22, “But the wicked will be cut off from the land and the treacherous will be uprooted from it.”

To cut out the tongue means to stop someone from speaking any further, which is the result of dying the Sin Unto Death. Cf. vs. 27-30.

Prov 10:32

Prov 10:32 “The speech of the righteous will know what is pleasing.” This is the application of Bible Doctrine in your speech.

The righteous person’s words will be edifying to the souls of its hears and pleasing to God.

1 Thes 2:3-5, “For our exhortation does not come from error or impurity or by way of deceit; 4 but just as we have been approved by God to be entrusted with the gospel, so we speak, not as pleasing men, but God who examines our hearts. 5 For we never came with flattering speech, as you know, nor with a pretext for greed—God is witness.”

Rom 14:17-18, “For the kingdom of God is not eating and drinking, but righteousness and peace and joy in the Holy Spirit. 18 For he who in this way serves Christ is pleasing to God and approved by men. 19So then we pursue the things which make for peace and the building up (edifying) of one another.”

2 Tim 2:4, “No soldier in active service entangles himself in the affairs of everyday life, so that he may please the one who enlisted him as a soldier.”

To be pleasing to God we have to leave our old life of sin behind and walk in His righteousness.

Eph 5:7-10, “Therefore do not be partakers with them; 8 for you were formerly darkness, but now you are Light in the Lord; walk as children of Light 9 (for the fruit of the Light consists in all goodness and righteousness and truth), 10 trying to learn what is pleasing to the Lord.”

Rom 12:1, “Therefore I urge you, brethren, by the mercies of God, to present your bodies a living and holy sacrifice, pleasing to God, which is your spiritual service of worship.

Rom 12:2, “ And do not be conformed to this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind, so that you may prove what the will of God is, that which is good and pleasing and perfect.”

Jesus is our example of how to be pleasing to God.

Rom 15:3, “For even Christ did not please Himself; but as it is written, “The reproaches of those who reproached You fell on Me.”

Rather than living for yourself and your own pleasures, we live for the benefit of others and the glorification of God.

Enoch walked in such a way by faith, which is how we please the Lord, Heb 11:5-6.

We are empowered to please God not by our own human efforts and resources, but by the power of the Lord Jesus Christ in us, (Bible Doctrine + the filling of the Holy Spirit). Heb 13:20-21; 1 Thes 4:1

Living a life that pleases God also affects our prayers, as they are answered when we live by His Word which is pleasing to Him.

1 John 3:22, “And whatever we ask we receive from Him, because we keep His commandments and do the things that are pleasing in His sight.”

Are rewards in the eternal state depend on us being pleasing to God.

2 Cor 5:9-10, “Therefore we also have as our ambition, whether at home or absent, to be pleasing to Him. 10 For we must all appear before the judgment (BEMA) seat of Christ, so that each one may be recompensed for his deeds in the body, according to what he has done, whether good or bad.”

The Contrast!

The Contrast! The wicked person speaks perverted things contrary to God’s Word, whether false doctrines or any of the sins of the tongue.

Rom 8:7-8, “The mind set on the flesh is hostile toward God; for it does not subject itself to the law of God (Bible Doctrine), for it is not even able to do so, 8 and those who are in the flesh cannot please God.”

The wicked use their words not as edifying to mankind but as the devil’s advocate to confuse God’s righteous principles and precepts to overthrow God’s rule in people’s souls. Cf. Col 3:1-17.

Examine Yourself! 1Corinthians 11:28

δοκιμ ά ζω (da-ke-ma-zo ) To prove as genuine such as to test metals. as to test metals. To approve of, discern, To approve of, discern, test, or scrutinize. test, or scrutinize. To deem worthy. To deem worthy.

Grace Offering Prov 3:9-10, “Honor the LORD from your wealth and from the first of all your produce; 10 So your barns will be filled with plenty and your vats will overflow with new wine.”
