Ordering Decimals and Whole Numbers

Put the following numbers in order from least to greatest.
14.025 2.25 4.025 4.205

Least = Smallest Greatest = Biggest

How to Order Decimal Numbers
Step 1: Make a list of blanks to put your numbers on, then label the least and greatest blanks. Step 2: Line up the decimal points Step 3: Look at your whole numbers & see how they differ. Step 4: Look at the Numbers in the tenths place and see how they differ. Keep going until you have the numbers in order.

Step 1: make a list of blanks to put your numbers on, then label the least and greatest blanks.
14.025 (Least) 1 1 2.25 2 2 4.025 3 3 4.205 4 4 (Greatest)

Next, look at your whole numbers.
14.025 (Least) 2.25 4.025 4.205 (Greatest)

Look at the number in the tenths place.
2.25 (Least) 4.025 4.025 14.025 4.205 4.205 (Greatest)

Look at the number in the tenths place.
0 is smaller than 2, so comes first. 2.25 (Least) 4.025 14.025 4.205 (Greatest)

The numbers are now in order from least to greatest, or smallest to biggest.
2.25 (Least) 4.025 4.205 14.025 (Greatest)

If you need to put them in order from greatest to least, then flip the order.
2.25 (Least) (Greatest) 4.025 4.205 14.025 (Greatest) (Least)

What if I have decimals with different place values?
This number has four decimal places. For all the other numbers, add zeros to the end so that they also have 4 decimal places. 2.023 2.02 2.0235 2.0230 2.0200
