1 My Fingerprint Direct & Indirect Characterization Activity Objective: To apply understanding of Direct & Indirect Characterization by describing yourself as if you were a character using both methods. DIRECTIONS: For this writing piece, you will use the lines of a fingerprint to create a Fingerprint Poem. 1. Complete “STEAL” Chart for yourself. 2. From “STEAL” Chart, use DIRECT CHARACTERIZATION (adjectives that describe your “character traits”) followed by INDIRECT CHARACTERIZATION (details that show the trait). 3. You must have at least 10 traits (2 per element of STEAL) and details/examples that show those traits. Fill up the fingerprint! 4. Use COLOR! 5. Incorporate pictures in-between or behind your words. 6. Use exciting, creative words – your words make you who you are! 7. Incorporate onomatopoeia (words that sound like the sound they make: crash, crackle, sizzle, woof) and sensory language (imagery). 8. Change the size of your writing (or use capital letters) to make certain words POP out!
