5 OBJECTIVES  We interpret naval history and heritage, providing relevant support to Navy leadership and Sailors to support policy development, enhance readiness and build esprit-de-corps.  We conduct outreach to the American public that highlights the critical role the Navy plays in their daily lives and the importance of maintaining a strong Navy to protect their basic freedoms and the America's maritime commerce.  We collect, preserve, protect, and make available the artifacts, documents, and art that embody our naval history and heritage for future generations.  We advance the knowledge of naval history and heritage through professional research, analysis, interpretation, products, and services. 5 Invoke the “Sense of the Heroic”; Connect to Our Audiences

An Historic Imagery Collection with 1 million historic photographs that illustrate rich Navy history in perpetuity An art and artifact collection stored and managed to industry standards in perpetuity A library and archive collection stored and managed to industry standards in perpetuity A fully accessible electronic collection leveraging cutting-edge technology A Communication and Outreach program to integrate naval history in concert with the U.S. Navy narrative A “Smithsonian class” Navy museum network that will be fully sustainable and accredited An Underwater Archaeological Program that manages 14K aircraft wrecks and 3K shipwrecks worldwide Serve as the naval history authority by collecting, researching, analyzing, writing and sharing the record A Historic Ship and Aircraft Program that provides oversight and stewardship
