1. Radish plants watered with vitamin water grew slower than ones watered with water Hannah and Steven. Agriscience, Hour 5, Marion High School. Introduction: We were unsure if vitamin water would affect the growth of the radish, so we set up the control, which was watered with water, and the variable, which was watered with vitamin water. We hypothesized that watering the radish seed with vitamin water instead of water would make the radishes’ leaves and stem grow longer. Vitamin water contains electrolytes and vitamins that help humans with their health, so they should help plants, too. Methods: To test this idea, we used the following steps: 1.For variable, collect dirt from Mr. Kohn’s dirt pile with your green pot by scooping until pot is 1 inch from being full. 2.Place each radish seed about a centimeter below the dirt in the pot. Keep the 3 seeds in a row, 1 inch apart. 3.Place pot w/ radish seeds in greenhouse where it’ll get plenty of sunlight. 4.Water radish with ¼ cup of vitamin water once daily. 5.For the control, do steps 1-3 above 6.Water radish pot with ¼ cup of water once daily. 7.Both the variable and control should be ready to harvest after 30 days. Results: After 2 weeks, our variable was not growing as quickly as our control. We did some research and have come to the assumption that the vitamin water just had too many vitamins for the radish to take in. Plants apparently make their own vitamins through photosynthesis and don’t need the extra through vitamin water. Discussion & Conclusion: We hypothesized that watering the radish seeds with vitamin water would make the radish grow more quickly and have larger leaves and a stem. Our hypothesis was wrong, though, because it wasn’t supported by any of our research. Watering a radish with vitamin water is just too much vitamins for the plant.
