2 PMEC Progress Committee revitalized in fall of 2004 –Chair: Brett Anderson –Currently 15 members 8 attended committee meeting on Monday 2 guests –Three meetings in CY06 AIAA staff support –Patricia Carr –Stephen Brock –Rachel Suits

3 Course Activity FY06 –54 courses held with 559 paid students –7 TC-sponsored courses –2 nd consecutive time since 1999 actual revenues higher than budget FY07 –52 courses scheduled – 8 TC-sponsored courses scheduled –1 Standards and 1 Section sponsored course scheduled

4 Benefits of TC Sponsored Course Peer recognition Promotes AIAA and TC AIAA staff handles course logistics and administration –TC develops and presents course TC receives honoraria –Fluid Dynamics received over $4100 for flow control course with 16 students –Travel funds for instructors

5 Process to Start New Course AIAA has worked with 16 TC’s the past five years to present courses –A handful act independently Step 1 – Complete course profile form Step 2 – Approval by TC or PMEC Step 3 – Schedule course with Tricia Carr –Scheduling of FY08 courses complete by July 15, 2007

8 Distance Learning Project Stephen Brock full-time staff resource Learn.com awarded contract –System testing phase –Two custom courses developed Systems Engineering and CFD –Four custom courses under development UAV, Spacecraft Design, Spacecraft Thermal, & Space Exploration –12 management courses purchased from Harvard Business School Publishing Scheduled launch date May 1, 2007

9 Course Packaging/Bundling Investigating the benefit and feasibility of packaging/bundling courses by 7 technical groups –Offer certificate upon completion of package/bundle

10 Continuing Education Units The Continuing Education Unit (CEU) is a nationally recognized method quantifying the time spent in the classroom during professional development and training activities The Purpose of issuing CEU’s is to provide a permanent record of training and continuing education for individuals who need to submit proof of their continuing education to state licensing boards, employers, etc. Any organization that offers professional development education and training programs may potentially award CEU’s. Adoption and use of the CEU is entirely voluntary and does not require the approval of another agency.

11 Next Steps? AIAA CEU’s - Should we record them? –Plan to start recording CEU’s Promote the importance of CEU’s to corporate membership and general aerospace community

12 Topics Interest Database PMEC very interested in TAC topic/interest database –Beneficial tool to help schedule and prioritize courses –Identify new course offerings T/I Database Development Committee –PMEC requests that Chris Clay and Jim Dieudonne be on the committee
