1 Days of Our Lives Ms. D’s 3 rd grade class April 12, 2010

2 Years How many days are in a year? 365 days is the amount of time it takes for the earth to go one revolution around the sun.

3 Years 365 days = 1 year 52 weeks = 1 year 12 months = 1 year days < weeks < months < years

4 Years You can estimate how many days old you are with this formula: 8 years X 365 days = days old 9 years X 365 days = days old

5 Years 2001 or 2002 – The years most of you were born. 2010 – now 1998 – Year this school opened. How many years old is this school? 2010 -1998 =

6 Decades A period of 10 years Examples: 1651-1661; 1983-1993; 2000-2010 It has been two decades since 1990 (20 years).

7 Centuries A period of 100 years 10 decades = 1 century Examples: 1776-1876; 1910-2010 It has been one century since 1910. days < weeks < months < years < decades < centuries 1752 was in the 18th century. We are now in the 21st century.

11 Creating Your Own Timeline! Think of important events from your own life.

12 Creating Your Own Timeline! Examples: –day you were born –siblings’ birth –moving to a new house –getting a new pet –starting kindergarten –starting 3rd grade –starting your favorite sport –going on a fun vacation What ideas did you storm up?

13 Creating Your Own Timeline! Narrow down your ideas from brainstorming to your favorite 5-10 ideas. Put the ideas in order, starting with the first one that happened. Try to remember the dates of them. Use Microsoft Word to create your own timeline of the events.

16 Underneath each event, insert a picture from Clip Art –Click on “Insert” on toolbar –Enter a search keyword For example, if you want a picture of a dalmation, you could type in “dog” - Choose which Clip Art picture you want, click it, and it will appear in your Word document. 17 After completing 5-10 events with Clip Art pictures, print document. On right side of paper, use a ruler to draw a vertical (up and down) line from first event to last event. Draw a small horizontal (side to side) dash next to each event on the vertical line Next to each small dash put the date that the event occurred.
